Space City Credit Union was originally chartered by a handful of employees in 1965 as Stewart & Stevenson Credit Union, and over the years served companies such as Stewart & Stevenson, General Electric, INEOS, Solvay, McCall Group, Rex Supply, Houston Housing Authority, Houston Professional Musicians Association, Brazoria ISD and more.

In 2025, Space City CU merged with Texas Dow Employees Credit Union (TDECU), a not-for-profit financial cooperative with roots in Lake Jackson. TDECU was formed in 1955 when a group of Dow employees came together to provide financial help for the hourly worker.

That mission of people helping people continues years later, serving Members in in Harris or Brazoria Counties.
